I just seen this on my statement and was also curious. It's only for a dollar, but still a dollar I didn't authorize! ?
It just happened to me
ATT/DirectTV $1.00 charges just started showing up on my bank account. Then LifeLock detected someone was using my information to try and open ATT/DirectTV accounts. Then hours later a charge from AT&T N043 00014 appeared on my bank account for $222.00 So be careful. I canceled my cards and am getting my money back at least from my bank. However upon contacting ATT/DirectTV I was told to just fill out a billing dispute form online! I've never had an ATT/DirectTV account of any kind.
It is an attack by, not to bright, hack-.....no, no, not skilled enough to be called hackers so we will call them cyber criminald. Being a computer wiz myself, I can pretty much guess the method of attack with almost 100% accuracy. I believe the method for attack is a technique called Sniffing. They do not know your bank account username/password or any other card(s) associated with the account. The reason for the micro transaction is to test the account to see if it is still active, and if the first transaction goes through then they hit you with a large sum. (Again, just guessing the method here) They get your bank to send a duplicate card by using the info they gathered using the Sniffing technique, not sure how they get an exact copy of your card, but there are multiple card cloning techniques.
