I contested this charge with Chase Visa. A Chase Visa security specialist called BNR*OUTDOOR LIFE with me on the phone for a three-way conversation. The Outdoor Life representative said I gave them my credit card # in September 2016 and authorized automatic renewal. I told him I did subscribe to Outdoor Life but only paid for it with a personal check and that I would never authorize an automatic payment of a magazine on my credit card. Rather than argue with Outdoor Life about how they got my credit card #, I told the Outdoor Life representative to cancel my subscription. He said I would get just one more magazine and that my $12.97 would be reimbursed in two billing cycles. The Chase Visa security specialist asked the Outdoor Life rep to verify that Outdoor Life would reimburse me the $12.97, and he said he would. The only way I can think they might have got my credit card number was back in September 2016, I did buy a magazine subscription on National Parks from a large magazine distributor; this was through my niece's young son for his Catholic school project to raise money for their private school. I did see Outdoor Life listed among the choices for more money than I had been paying. The Chase Visa security specialist considered this activity fraudulent and asked me to receive a new credit card number, since it was not clear how my credit card information got into Outdoor Life's possession.

Beware: BNR*OUTDOOR LIFE is scamming previous subscribers by automatically charging fraudulent renewals from old accounts. A charge on my visa for $27.97 was pending for at least 4 days before it went through. I knew something was wrong and thought my visa company probably noticed it was a red flag. Over a week later, I see the charge went through. Tell your credit card company if you find this charge. Mine was on a Chase Visa. I called Outdoor Life and the representative said the charge was 'interesting' and was not sure why a renewal was charged. I will be refunded but had to call and request the charge to be reversed.
