I booked a Virginia motel for Memorial Weekend on March 22nd. Twelve days later on April 3rd, I was charged $8.00 by "Online Reservation Speci FL". Upon receiving my credit card statement mid-April, I protested the charge with VISA and cancelled the card. The charge was released from my account on April 21st only due to my formal protest. Booking.com, Online Reservation Specialists and The Whispering Pines Motel have all now concocted a story that the $8.00 was a pre-authorization to test the validity of my credit card. VISA tells me they have never seen a pre-authorization to test a credit card that remains in effect for 18 days (April 3 to April 21). I am convinced Online Reservation Specialists are ripping people off $8.00 at a time.
I booked a hotel through Booking.com and was charged an $8 fee 15 days later. This is a scam
Also happened to me. Booked a hotel through hotels.com. Neither the hotel nor hotels.com will take responsibility for this. But some how the "Online Reservation Specialist" scam got their $8 charged to my credit card.
