A payment to this company corresponds with a transaction in the canteen of the Dick Vet Clinic (Veterinary School of Medicine in Edinburgh) and therefore is a legitimate payment.
This corresponds to a purchase in Clackett Lane services on the M25 (Roadchef).
This was a WHSmith small store at some motorway services, showing as Upay on my statement.
Payment for coffee at Rownhams services, M27/M3 junction
I think this refers to an own brand catering outlet at Tibshelf services on the M1 North.
lunch from chain Baxter Storey
canteen at Cardinal place, 80 Victoria street, London
A legit payment. This was food purchased at the canteen of Askham Bryan College York. (Judging by other comments it must be used by a variety of small catering providers.)
Even Barclaycard seem unable to identify the merchant associated with a charge listed under Upay ltd. I regard it with suspicion.
Checked it out and this was a W H Smiths on motorway services.Genuine,

UPAY is a global payments processor mainly used in retail and hospitality industry. Just as 'AMAZON' is shown in your statements when you buy from a seller at amazon, the seller is not the amazon. Similarly when you pay for your coffee to a shop using upay for the card payment, for example, you see upay on your statement instead of the name of coffee shop.
Quite legit: payment to my old college for a meal.
WH Smith at Norton Canes motorway services last night M6 Southbound. Legit!
Top-up payment machine for canteen at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. Legit :)
Legit payment for family ticket to Askham Bryan wildlife park
This was for a known payment at Askham Bryan wildlife park in York
Came up for a legit payment for lunch at Askham Bryan College Middlesbrough.
Lunch and coffee at Hearing Dogs for the Deaf cafe, Saunderton
Mine was also for lunch at Hearing Dogs for the Deaf Cafe in Saunderton - would be helpful if there was some form of recognition on your statement
£10 taken by UPAY ROCHESTER GB following a purchase in WHSmith BOURNEMOUTH.
Purchase in Levels Cafe, 9c Holyrood Rd, Edinburgh
I queried this payment however it was a WH Smith payment.
Payment for snacks at Henry's Cafe, Stewart Park, Middlesbrough.
Legitimate: M6 Toll services - a payment at Leon shows as UPay Ltd.
Legit, I struggled to think what it was when I saw it on my statement, but I used it at the Cafe inside the Triumph visitor centre in Hinkley and I've got no other transactions in my statement to cover it, so it's legitimate. I wish the receipt has something written on it though.
Legitimate. Canteen lunch at Princess Royal Hospital, Hayward’s Heath.
Pondered on this one as never been to Rochester and dont use motorway services much - eventually worked out it was the £15 for the Triumph VIN PLate Keyring I'd had made for me at the Triumph Visitor Experience in Hinkley. The details on the credit card statement could have been more helpful!
Thanks for this website - reminded me what I’d bought and why it would appear like that .. coffee and simple payment machine .. legit
Food purchased the Hive Cafe, Askham Bryan College.
Payment at cafe in Teeside Uni
Legit...this was food and drink bough from The All England Lawn Tennis Club aka Wimbledon.
Legitimate charge.
Upay is a payment service used by all sorts of businesses, so it can be hard to find out the source of the transaction. In my case it was to pay for food at "The Grange" in Saunderton.
Used by food outlets at Wimbledon tennis tournament.
Charge related to payment for food at Wimbledon Tennis
Wimbledon Tennis cafe
Didn't recognise this company but have realised it is for a legitimate payment - contactless payment for a food retailer.
Legitimate charge from cafe at Highcliffe Castle, would have been nice to have seen some identifying message on the bank statement.
My UPAY Rochester debit must have been the catering company who run the upstairs (6th floor) restaurant at The Royal Sus!$# County Hospital in Brighton. I had a cheap lunch and a coffee there on that date. Again thanks for your web-site.
Office canteen near Heathrow
Cafe in at my office HQ, payments match perfectly what I bought for lunch on those dates.
This was a transaction at a hearing dogs restaurant
Payment for coffee at an Arramart College Canteen
I was super confused originally as I live nowhere near Rochester, turns out it’s just payments for food at Andover College. Strange that it comes up like that, but it’s nothing to worry about
Legit payment for lunch while at Leeds Trinity University for work.
Costa Coffee, Norton Canes Services on M6 Toll
A legit payment. This was food purchased at the canteen of Askham Bryan College York.
I have literally just found loads of payments, some times two per day, all around the £2.40 - £3.50 amount. One was for £13.80. These showed up on days I commuted to london from faversham on southeastern trains. That train lune does pass through rochester, but I have never got off the train there. I'm seeking advice from my bank about the charges, but they're definitely illegal charges that have been made to my bank account. I can only assume that someone has either got my bank details and was using them to draw out small amounts frequently, or, as it only seems to be on the days that I travelled up to london, may have been some other way of extracting payments in a local proximity, maybe on the train itself. The last payment taken was in august, 2019.
Scratch the last message! Turns out UPAY are a payment transaction technology services company, with offices in Rochester, Kent! Basically, any payments showing up as UPAY Rochester, GBR, could be from any retail shop, restaurant or cafe anywhere in the UK. All legit, just confusing.
Thanks to this website, I was reminded that mine was also for lunch at Hearing Dogs for the Deaf Cafe in Saunderton - would be v.v.v. helpful if there was some form of recognition on your statement
Payment system for cafe at University of Edinburgh - legit
I just realised that this appears as upay Lt when I buy food from our site canteen. It is legitimate payment for me.
Cafe at Highcliffe Castle near Bournemouth
I think my payment is legitimate- a contactless payment in a motorway service station on M6, nowhere near Rochester. Not marked as Upay, but as Roadchef Rochester.
Only for £2 so thought it couldn't be a scam. Had a drink to that value at Highcliffe Castle cafe so as Robin (Sept 21 2020 ) it's ok.
Fleet Services M3 KFC
Legitimate payment, entry fee for Askham Bryan Wildlife Park, But it was only using this website that confirmed this for me, before that I was questioning it
